THE BLUEFIELDS PROJECT, NICARAGUA 1995
The third and final phase of this project re-surveyed reefs off the Corn Islands, and in doing so trained local Nicaraguans in the necessary skills to survey these and other reefs. Using existing sub-marine transects, established from the first two phases, a biological inventory of corals and other marine fauna were recorded. The data colelcted will be used by the Caribbean Coastal Marine Productivity Programme (CARICOMP).The Bluefields Project is now in the process of turning its attention elsewhere with the intention of setting up a similar monitoring programme, though the location is yet to be finalised.
