Description |
 |
|
The project aimed to improve the effectiveness of conservation efforts by providing data on lemur densities, distributions and ecology, which will assist NGOs in developing appropriate conservation policies within the Zahamena Reserve and Madagascar. The team: 1) determined population densities and distributions of diurnal and nocturnal lemur species; 2) assessed various aspects of lemur ecology, both within Zahamena and through comparative studies with other sites in Madagascar; and 3) provided counterparts with fieldwork and research experience, thus enhancing scientific knowledge and education within Madagascar. They also examined the importance of human disturbance and forest characteristics in determining spatial distributions. |
